The South Carolina Youth Shooting Foundation was started by a few clay target shooting enthusiasts, who were interested in creating an organization to enable "youth" a better opportunity to enjoy the art of clay target shooting, pistol and rifle shooting. In 2008, the SCYSF was formed and recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. In the first year of operation, the SCYSF had 377 different youth participation in Skeet, Trap, and Sporting Clays events. We are in hopes of adding archery, rifle, and pistol shooting in the future. Our goal is to introduce youth to not only enjoy the outdoors, but to learn safety with firearms, accuracy, and to meet other youth from around the state.

We are excited about the prospects of this program and the opportunities we have to instill life skills in youth involved in this program. Skills such as respect, ethics, sportsmanship, teamwork, focus, dedication, and commitment are skills to be mastered to become a productive and contributing member of society. "Shooting" is simply the vehicle with wich we can deliver our message.

A youth interested in participating in a SCYSF event must become part of a SCYSF recognized organizagion. A youth may participate on a school, gun club, church , SCISA, 4-H or Boy Scouts team in their area. In addition youth must:

• Must be an young woman/man in 4th-12th grade

• Pay annual SCYSF registration fee of $25 prior to participating in a SCYSF event.

•Must be in good standing with your SCYSF organization.

• Become an active Junior Member of the National Sporting Clay Association and pay $20 annual registration fee.

• Pass and pay $10 for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Hunter Safety Certification Course(6th grade shooters and under are NOT required to have SCDNR Hunter Safety)

• Complete the Shooter and Medical Registration, and Consent & Waiver Form.

If you do not have a SCDNR Hunters Safety Number, you will be allowed to shoot, but will be required to pay full entry fee plus $10.

All SCISA shooters must have a SCDNR Hunters Education number or they will not be allowed to shoot.

The season runs from October 1 through May 1. Those teams who won the State Championships at the end of the season are then eligible to participate in the National Championships during the summer. International shoots and competitions for those desiring to participate in our internationl sports are held at the conclusion of the season
